Grew up in China, an officially Atheist country, I have found the idea of being Chinese Christians fascinating. Curiosity motivated me to initiate this project. Seeking and Becoming is a photo essay on a multi-generational congregation of a Chinese Community Church in Washington, D.C. As D.C.'s Chinatown gradually losing its population and scale due to gentrification, the essay highlights the outreaches and support within the church community and its effort to keep Chinese traditions alive. The essay also illustrates the contrast between the established Chinese Americans who seek to preserve their Chinese heritage and the struggling new immigrants who try to adapt to life in the United States.
